WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Obama administration has met many of the border security benchmarks Congress set in 2007 as a prerequisite to immigration reform and now it's time to change the law, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Friday.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

More secure is certainly not the same as secure.

I agree.

I think the economy is the biggest factor in slowing illegals from crossing the Mexico border to enter the US.

I am not in favor of an amnesty type bill, and I do not support the idea that anchor babies are or should be citizens.

I think the illegal population needs to be dealt with, but until there the economy recovers significantly, I do not think that any bill will pass that does not stipulate deportation.

The rage against allowing medical treatment for anyone here illegally should be considered thoughtfully before any immigration policy is drafted concerning the illegals.

We have immigration laws on the books for a reason, and lawbreakers are just that - lawbreakers.

I will note that many illegals are here at the behest of corporations/individuals who do not want to pay a working wage or benefits to a legal citizen of the United States. Those individuals need to be dealt with according to law, also. JMHO.

Maybe she should tell Sheriff Joe Arpaio the good news. Of course, Ms. Napolitano wanted Sheriff Joe to stop arresting illegals. Forgive me if I don't share your optimism, Janet.
