UPDATE: Cheney not sure if bin Laden is alive. Also, says problems with auto industry fall to Obama.
All of President Bush's actions during his years as a wartime leader were done with full legal authority, Vice President Dick Cheney said on Fox News Sunday.
I wonder if conservatives will be comfortable with that principle when Obama is president?
I doubt it. I'm sure the entire crowd of conservatives who have been constantly supporting the line that the President can essentially do anything, will suddenly feel different come January.
lol the gop is A, href="http://www.fcw.com/online/news/154720-1.html">gearing up for presidential oversight.</a>. (lol i wish thjey had remembered this for the first 6 years of the bush medocraty.
but yeah during clinton when clinton asked for patriot act powers the gop cried tyranny.(me included).
then they cried unpatriotic when we questioned bush's powers.(without me)
I suspect it will be tyranny again soon(probably with me again)
Cheney: If president does it during wartime, it's legal
Do we live by the same constitution?
Amen to that, luckydog!
I wonder if Obama will be able to make the hard decisions that this President and this administration has had to make. I am quite sure the Bush admin. did not plan on their legacy to be determined by the actions of 9/11 which ultimatley defined their 8 years. I wonder if the Obama will be able to withstand the bi-partisan beatings that Bush had to withstand from every left wing liberal nut job that comes along. I wonder.....
Sieg Heil mein Cheney
I wonder if the Obama will be able to withstand the bi-partisan beatings that Bush had to withstand from every left wing liberal nut job that comes along.
Er... are you sure what bi-partisan means? Bi-partisan "beatings" can't come from only "left wing liberal nut jobs", as you put it, or it wouldn't be bi-partisan.
Sieg heil!
It's a novel legal theory which I guess would have given Hitler a pass since most of his crimes were committed during wartime. Way to go "Dick".
Saddam committed war crimes against Iranis and Kurds during wartime , the same crimes he was exceuted for. Does Cheney call for hanging Bush and his adminstration too?
You aren't worth the blood in your veins as an American if you have the ignorance to compare Bush to Hitler or Saddam............I think you should move.
If there was ever a time to purge ourselves or left wing seperatists it is now and I would join the ranks of the right irradicate the U.S. of them. (Left). You do not form of government affords you and you certainly take your liberties under the name of democracy way too far.
American's have democracy because we have used military power to remain free and every true American has been willing to take their place in the ranks to do just that.
Today however America is over run with cowards and seperatists that do nothing more than tear at the moral fiber of the nation. America is going the way of the Roman Empire.....being destroyed from within.
I find it laughable that the media is clogged with nothing more than a group of homsexuals and cowards screaming America is unfair and the war is wrong and the President is Hitler.
I don't about anyone else but I have had it up to my ears with this traitorist type bantor and I bet I am not the only one...........Take Heed.
Ranger
I served this country and I can compare the Oval office retard twins to Satan if I feel like it . Learn to live with it, I ain't movin.
Ex-Thumper - unfortunately some of those on the right feel that they have a lock on patriotism and service to country. My family has served in almost every war as far back as we can trace and I am a veteran and unlike Cheney and Bush I actually volunteered and served out my military service during Vietnam. Nothing extraordinary about that, millions and millions of us have served and thank god we are not all conservatives.
One reason we have remained free is we do criticize our government, deserving or not. If Ranger had his way we would all be good little Germans and question nothing. The reason some are so incensed about Bush being compared to Hitler is because it is far too close to the truth and it makes them uncomfortable so the only way they can respond is with bravado, bluster and threats. Take heed indeed.
That is not true..........I think you should question everything. But there is a civil respectable way to go about it. Remember half the Nation or more put those men in office. They took the job (which I wouldn't want) and did there best. Did we help them be successful? Ask not what your country can do for you; instead ask what you can do for your country. You are a far cry from American Patriots.....And the peewee that said he served his country for what? 2yrs...3 yrs? Dishonorable or general discharge? You have certainly lost your military bearing (never had it) when you sit here and trash the Commander and Chief of the Armed Forces. Especially when we have troops in harms way. I'm not proud to hear you are a veteran. Try to keep that to yourself.
I don't about anyone else but I have had it up to my ears with this traitorist type bantor and I bet I am not the only one...........Take Heed.
Ooooh, you're cute. The President is NOT a King, he does not make law!!!
Ranger
Military bearing my ass, I turned that in with my TA-50(when I recieved my Honorable Discharge). And how many years must you serve before you can be considered patriotic? I am under no obligation to give the President or VP any respect at all. Suck it up Rump Ranger the trashing will continue.
if you have the ignorance to compare Bush to Hitler or Saddam............I think you should move.
You mean that it,s an ignorance to compare his smirky face to their stern faces when they all gave orders of mass-killing? or the ignorance is to compare his beloved war crimes to their repugnant war crimes?
By the way it,s not only the ''bad liberals'' who are capable of callimg the war criminal a war criminal...wake up of your ideological illusion...it,s the whole world,s say
What is the word for a person who kills at all costs no matter what the reason? I heard Cheney speak once before becoming vp to a conservative crowd in Colorado Springs. He talked killing the Russians by any means necessary for no clear reason. When he finished speaking the large hall was deadly quiet until some lone soul started clapping. Even the hawks were shocked. Then he went on to get elected with Bush. Sad day for us all.
What is the word for a person who kills at all costs no matter what the reason?
A sociopath?
How old are you? 17? Who do you think was our countries sworn military enemy in the "Cold War" ? The war I fought for 20 years? Russia. When was he talking about killing Russians? Because i can assure you there are as many hardliners still in Russia that wants to kill you "For no apparent reason"
Just like there is a whole continent of Muslims that want your head on a stick "for no apparent reason"
Being an American is enough fro these murderers to want you daed for their religion. They want nothing less than the Russians wanted..world domination and that means you either convert or they take your head. Get ready..................someday you may be fighting these people in the streets of your home town to defend your way of life and then maybe you will place more value on this country and it's leadership.........
You should not be running your mouths about the Commander and Chief of the U.S........I don't care who is in that seat.....Bush....Clinton......Obama........just remind yourself that you could be living somewhere else.
"You should not be running your mouths about the Commander and Chief of the U.S........I don't care who is in that seat.....Bush....Clinton......Obama........just remind yourself that you could be living somewhere else."
dead wrong, dude.
1) we absolutely should be critical of everything our government does. they answer to us, or should. it's their freaking job. if we sit back and say nothing, well who is that patriotic to?
2) can not! you gonna pay for my passport and flight ticket?? didn't think so. besides, it's every american's right to sit put and @!$%# as much as they want about whatever they want. thanks for pitching in for that liberty.
chill.
The government works for us in this country not the other way around. Bush and Cheney are answerable to us so it is our duty to question everything and anything. Not tidy but as field marshal von Rumsfeld used to say, that is the way Democracy is.
You really believe that? You are one vote and that vote means that you are putting your trust in that candidate or party to handle the affairs of the nation that you support. The key word is support.
There are people here right now that voted for Bush and your bashing the very person you elected.
If your running down our country then your running down you and I. Did you vote? Then shutup and go enlist and earn the right to talk about democracy. You all sure have a lot of ability to lead.............but you need to learn how to serve. Join up......I'm sure there is a recruiter in your town.
from article: The Vice President acknowledged that there are arguments about how Bush exercised his powers, but remained adamant that his administration stayed loyal to the Constitution.
Maybe conservatives will be relieved when Obama finds the means to better define the powers of the executive so it stays within the bounds of the constitution/separation of powers.
Though again, part of that process might be to hold Cheney, Bush, et al accountable to put teeth into it?
Nope, "comfortable" doesn't come to mind.
Just like Nixon...
Actually makes Nixon look like a liberal. At least Nixon had the good grace to resign...
Yeah, that's true.
and in the USA it is always wartime.
Good point. HOw many non-fighting years has this country really had in the past several decades?
well while we skoff, me included as we all know what was the intent of our forefathers, there is legal basis for what chenny claims and this really must be addressed. the suprme court has skipped rulling on this during nixon and heear we are doomed to repeat it.
I'm not sure the total legal arguments but i suspect it has to do with the presidents pardon power, a bit more than some vague theory of unitary executive. See in theory the president could get someone to murder you and then pardon the murderer and himself. He could still be thrown out of office in impeachment but dont think he could be held responcible punatively.
It's just we need to quit rolling our eyes at the chenneys of the world and address how they have gotten so misguided and demand our gov, particularly the supreme court to rule on the issue. ANd IF the supreme court find the president IS all powerful. Then we need a new constituional amendment, probably one that limtis the pardon power of the president, or give congress the power to over rule.. make it hard like overriding vetos.
You are so right Joules. We all want the president to be able to effectively perform the duties of his office but we need to clarify the bounderies and the mechanisms under which we can act against a rogue administration who is acting irrationally and in violation of the constitution. I don't think the founding fathers ever envisioned such a cowardly and passive congress.
As I see it.
"We let the Terrorist win a few battles against the United States of America's Constitutional Law. The "4Th Amendment to the Bill of Rights" was one of the battles we lost.
"The War for the Constitutional Law is not lost, what we do in the next few months will determine the winner." "The Constitution will of course survive, we might let it be a little weaker, but it will survive." oms
"but clearly when you take the oath to support, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies foreign and domestic, there's no question about what your responsibilities are in that regard," Cheney said.
support, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies foreign and domestic, NEED I SAY MORE.
FYI. support, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies foreign and domestic, ..............Is part of the Oath I took when I enlisted in the US Navy.
"All of President Bush's actions during his years as a wartime leader were done with full legal authority, ..."
That doesn't seem like saying much when your alter or write your own laws as you go along.
That's so much BS that it reeks. Slaughterhouses smell better than Cheney's illegal, unethical, and immoral claims.
Nixon said the same thing. But it's as wrong today as it was then.
The thought that Bush and Cheney will traipse off with big pensions and perks is enough to gag the most stalwart maggot.
No...conservatives dont care about the constitution...remember... the President can do whatever he wants in a time of war!!! It doesn't have to be constitutional, duh! If you don't believe me just ask Dick.
Well he certainly doesn't have to answer to you on what is the necessary force or intelligence methods neede to deploy to protect the sovereignty of the USA. Now does he?
#1. Only congress can declare war...............so why do you sit here and blame the Pres and VP?
#2. Bush is not a war stegist so I am sure his decisions came fro the Generals of the Military. You know....the one that has bought you your freedoms with their blood?
Why don't you shut up and let qualified people make these decisions........I certainly would hate to see any of you in any office during a war.
Sounds like Cheney's coming up with a defence in case after this administration he is called to testify.Well I believe Congress should at least hold a hearing about some of the Presidents decisions for the past eight years and if prosecuted and found guilty,I believe he and Cheney should go to prison!
I think the whole lot of them could use the insanity defense and win...
You are probably right.
Not only is it a good comparison it is an acurate one bushes grand father was part of a group of southern evangelicals that helped hitler financially .It was said thet many in texas considered him the second coming of the christ.
I am also a veteran and work with many liberal and conervative types and after fifty years on this planet most of the cowards and cretins I have known have been consecative christians and you can pretty much take that one to the bank.
Yeah.............like schwartzkaupf and Colin Powell? Conservative.....I go to church with Norman in Tampa fl. Your bank just went bust. Oh by the way I'll pass your message on to him Sunday. LOL what a joke.
Dear Santa,
All I want for Christmas is for Bush and Cheney to be tried for war crimes, and go to jail for a long long time like they deserve. I promise I've been good for 8 long years. Thank you for considering my request. See you Christmas Eve.
Ranger65, it is my right and duty as an American to criticize my government leaders, particularly when they are as stupid and egomaniacal as Bush-Cheney. They are an echo of Nixon and the way he usurped the Constitution of the United States and effectively set up his own government. Bush-Cheney took away the civil liberties of every citizen of this country in the name of law and order and homeland security. Like a herd of sheep, Americans let them do it. They also ruined the economy and out reputation with the rest of the world. In effect, they destroyed this country. Now, they are "bailing out" their big business friends with billions of dollars that this country has to borrow from China, to whom we already owe hundreds of billions.
Where are these qualified people who are supposed to make decisions about the wars, etc.? Oh, yeah, they're in the White House and the Pentagon and they got us into this bloody mess. You need to get your head out of the sand and look at what has happened to this country under Bush-Cheney.
Our laws are for all times regardless of war-time or not. No one is above the law.... If you believe the President is above the law you are wrong.... simply, Cheney is wrong and trying to absolve himself of the wrong he and the President and the administration has committed against America and the citizens of our great country... they should be investigated and brought to bear for any crimes committed...
Not much use arguing with Ranger. Logic doesn't apply in his world only partisan loyalty under the guise of patriotism.
I find it interesting that he thinks we should blindly follow Bush a well know AWOL during wartime while badmouthing veterans when he knows nothing at all about their service. Typical conservative BS.
