In a move that legal experts said could present a major test of First Amendment rights in the Internet era, a federal judge in San Francisco on Friday ordered the disabling of a Web site devoted to disclosing confidential information.
The site, Wikileaks.org, invites people to post leaked materials with the goal of discouraging "unethical behavior" by corporations and governments. It has posted documents concerning the rules of engagement for American troops in Iraq, a military manual concerning the operation of prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, and other evidence of what it has called corporate waste and wrongdoing.
It's hard to keep a good techie down.
These injunctions will probably not stand up on appeal. It is sad how quickly and easily the injunction was obtained.
It is funny how congress and the courts continue to view websites as if they were post office boxes or safety deposit boxes which can be simply 'locked down'. Since the seed article has been published all the sites have been blocked or volutary taken down. I am impressed about this though I do not think the judgement was right however it shows that porno sites could be taken down the same way that would be very impressive if that could be done.

Ok first it was a whistle blower site, next it is porn.. even though porn is legal.. i gues you mean child porn but probably not.. what else offend you, drugs? might as well go after the druggie sites that show our children how to abuse and make drugs.
gambling?? so many homes would be saved if we only whip this scourge off the face of the earth?
of course the torrent sites, they all must go, cant have a functioning economy filled with theives.
but hey what about sites on abortion, atheism, evolution, perhaps an id friendly admin will think that it is the net preventing the adoption of id int he class room.. and what about wiretaps.. we all know the congress folded on wiretaps due to the grassroots efforts of the netizens.
Dont meant to pick, but this is how we become china.
Thanks jpark. I know where I'm surfing tonight.
Eventually everyone will have to address the issue of corporate tyranny, class despotism, and what it takes to defeat their imperial, corporate ideology. Hint: it isn't the democratic and republican class parties.
This story published late Monday not only scooped the New York Times, but also includes text from the injunction to help readers understand the context of the battle. WikiLeak.org mirror-sites, which are still up, also provide a bit more depth and context to the story.
